Spring and autumn Briars

A charming plant with invaluable healing properties

Briar is a species of the heather family that came to us straight from distant Africa. So far, scientists have discovered over eight hundred types of this beautiful plant. Within our country, only one species of briar occurs in natural conditions, namely the marsh briar.

Although the dwarf shrubs are slightly different from each other, we can find some common features that are characteristic of the entire species of briar. These are mainly their small dimensions, as well as a cool green color. The hearts of many gardeners have been won over by slender stems covered with small, coniferous leaves. However the real charm of briars come in August, when the flower buds tied in the corners of the stems turn into tiny flowers, resembling tiny bells. A varied range of colors allows you to choose the species to your preferences - from deep, bloody red, through intense pink and energizing purple, and ending with pure white.

Briars are frequent arrangement solution in modern households, where the inhabitants focus mainly on natural decorations. Thanks to their minimalist form, combined with the intense colors of the lush inflorescence, they will become an effective decoration of any interior, regardless of the style in which it was decorated.

These shrubs are also known for their invaluable health properties. Hebe

Heather plant with an original appearance.

Hebe is classified as a heather plant. It came to us straight from distant New Zealand, although it also occurs in Tasmania, New Guinea, and also in some parts of South America. It is there that the optimal conditions for the growth and development of these plants occur - high air humidity, high temperatures and frequent rainfall. In Polish households, hebe is an ornamental plant. Ease of cultivation means that it appears more and more often both on our window sills and in our gardens.

Thanks to its original visual effects, it has won the hearts of many lovers of garden original arrangement solutions. Under our conditions, hebe can reach dimensions of several dozen centimeters at most, although there are also specimens that grow up to one meter in height. Hebe is a perennial, which allows growers to enjoy its beautiful appearance for several seasons.

It has small, stiff, oval leaves covered with a wax coating. Sometimes their edges can take colors from light green, through shades of yellow, to pastel pink. The approximate flowering period of hebe is from the end of May until the first frost. However, it all depends on the specific species. Their flowers, on the other hand, are gathered in large clusters at the ends of the shoots, and their colors are most often white, purple or blue. It is also worth mentioning that the hebe plant fits perfectly with heathers, so together they will create a successful composition.

Gaultheria

Gaultheria is a member of the heather family. This low and evergreen shrub has decorative functions, and its small size makes it possible to plant it even within small spaces. Our production includes several varieties of Gaultheria Procumbens , as well as Chilean (Mucronata) Gaultheria.

The most popular species of Gaultheria

Gaultheria is found in the natural environment in both Americas, South and South-East Asia, as well as in Australia and New Zealand. Therefore, it belongs to the plants living in the area around the Pacific. Due to the different specificity of the climate, only a few of the approximately 150 species are cultivated in Poland.

The most popular of them is Gaultheria Procumbens. It is a plant which grows in the July-August period which produces small, red fruits. During the fall and winter, the leaves of the shrub take on a slightly burgundy color, enriching the color of the garden also when many other plants shed their leaves. As they are creeping plants, they can occupy relatively large areas of land, but trimming them should not be a problem.

Big Berry Gaultheria has almost the same characteristics, but its fruits are larger and therefore more visible.

Other interesting varieties

A slightly larger shrub is Chilean (Mucronata) Gaultheria . It can grow up to about 50 cm in height. Except for the size, from Gaultheria Procumbens is different by the color of the fruit, which in the case of the described plant is slightly more variable and ranges from white to purple, which affects the color variety of berries. Salal Gaultheria is characterized by pomegranate fruits. Thus, planting various species of the described genus of heather plants ensures that the garden is enriched with a diverse color composition, which becomes visible during the flowering period.

A safe plant for your home and garden

Gaultheria is not a poisonous plants. Therefore, they can be planted in gardens where children often stay, as their fruit do no harm. In America, the dried leaves of these shrubs are used to prepare infusions, and the crumbled leaves are an aromatic addition to baking. What's more, they can also be grown in pots, making them perfect home decorations. However, it should be remembered that due to the very wide geographic scope of occurrence, some varieties have slightly different preferences regarding, for example, air temperature.

Daboecia

Are you a beginner gardener or maybe you simply like beautiful plants in your surroundings? If so, you've come to the right place. Our company is a producer and seller of Daboecia, which belongs to heather plants family. We have a wide range of plants from which you will surely choose the one that suits you best.

What kind of plant is Daboecia?

Daboecia is a shrub that comes from the heather family. It is similar to the heather flower - it is distinguished by the fact that it has larger flowers. It is a partially frost-resistant plant and is classified as an evergreen plant - the kind that keep their beautiful green color throughout the year.

It has goblet-shaped, hanging flowers that grow densely, next to each other in large inflorescences. Their color is white and various shades of purple. Daboecia leaves are quite small, most often they have different shades of green, although it happens that in some varieties of the plant they are red or golden. The leaves themselves are slightly fleshy as well as relatively narrow and even. The fruits of this flower are in a purse.

Daboecia is a plant that is suitable for gardens full of heather, rock gardens and even for growing in a regular pot. It works great as a ground cover plant. Our company sells two varieties of this plant - Azores Daboecia (acores daboecia) as well as Cantabrian aboecia (daboecia cantabrica). We encourage you to read the following descriptions of plants.

Daboecia Acores

It is a slightly less popular species of daboecia, but it is just as beautiful as the others. It is an evergreen shrub that grows to a height of about 30 centimeters.

The leaves are extremely narrow because their edges curl up. They are also blunt and have a characteristic shape. Their color is dark green, they are covered with glandular hairs on the top and white down on the underside. The flowers of this plant grow very densely, which gives an exceptionally spectacular effect. Their color, however, differs significantly - they are not purple, red or purple, they are pink.

This plant blooms relatively early. Additionally, unfortunately, it is less resistant to low temperatures - harsh winter or a stronger gust of wind can seriously damage it.

Daboecia Cantabrica

This variety has lavender flowers and its leaves are dark green and shiny. Their underside is white. The plant reaches a height of 40 centimeters. It is cultivated for its effective flowers that will certainly attract attention.
Its varieties are:

✔️ Alba - it has white flowers.
✔️ Atropurpurea - its flowers have a shade of dark purple.
✔️ Bicolor - this variety has very different flowers, which are both pink and white, and some of them are striped.
✔️ Praegerae - its flowers are dark pink.

How to properly cultivate Cantabrian Daboecia?

The flower should be watered with a small amount of water (soft, preferably using rainwater) in such a way that the soil is still slightly moist. We take care of the leaves, try not to soak them. Watering should be especially remembered during drought and hot weather. The plant should be fertilized with a preparation intended for heather plants - a multi-component and a slow-acting mineral fertilizer will work best.

Daboecia Cantabrica needs a warm and sunny place that is sheltered from the wind. The soil that this plant needs is humus, permeable and having an acidic pH, as this ensures its proper growth and flowering. The flower is best propagated by rooting shoot cuttings. Wraps are also a good method. In order for the soil to remain moist, the substrate around the flower must be mulched with bark. In winter, the shrubs should be covered with fleece or spruce branches, as the plant may freeze during cold winters (it can withstand temperatures down to about -15 degrees).

If daboecia grows in too humid and warm conditions, it is exposed to gray mold or root rot. It is also worth mentioning the trimming of the flower in early spring - it will result in much better plant growth and flower densification.
